Natural Head Lice Treatment
The head lice are small brownish-grey insects which feed on the blood of their human host. Adult lice bite the scalp of the host, then lay tiny, white eggs called “nits,” which cling tightly to the hair shaft close to the scalp. These nits are usually the first sign of a headlice infestation, as they are clearly seen near the hairline, although in thick infestations the actual insects may be visible. Infestations of lice are commonly signaled by red, itchy scalp and possibly swollen lymph glands in the neck.Head lice are different from crab lice in that they live solely in the hair of the head, rather than hair on other parts of the body. Lice are very common pests and can easily be passed from one person to another by sharing of combs, brushes, or headgear, or even by close contact. Almost everyone contracts head lice at some point in their lives, although infestations are far more common in school children, who are in close quarters and have a greater tendency to share objects such as combs, hats, and barrettes.
Natural Treatment for Head Lice
There are many social stigmas attached to headlice, most notably that they infest “dirty” people or those with poor hygiene. This is absolutely false, but it can cause shame and concern when a child or adult experience a head lice infestation. Ignoring the problem is not an option, however, as it will only be harder to treat if not handled immediately.Treatment of head lice is not easy, but it is possible to eliminate them with the right products and some patience. Not only must the adults be killed, which is actually quite simple, but the developing nits must be destroyed as well, or the infestation will recur. There are several natural head lice treatments available. The best natural head lice treatment will treat not only adults, by affecting the central nervous system of the insect, but the developing eggs as well, rendering them easier to remove.
In order to completely conquer a lice infestation, a natural treatment for head lice must include environmental control, as well. Washing all bedding and clothing in hot water and vacuuming all carpets and mattresses will remove any stray lice that may re-infest the host. Using natural treatments for head lice allows your family to remove the irritating problem of lice without exposure to harsh poisons or chemicals that may cause health problems.
